Church Schools

Church schools within the Diocese of Guildford are the responsibility of the Diocesan Board of Education. The Diocesan Director of Education and his team serve schools in Surrey, NE Hampshire and part of the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames.

Church schools are part of the state maintained sector. There are two main categories of church schools:

Voluntary Aided Schools where the governing body has greater freedoms and responsibilities;

Voluntary Controlled Schools, controlled by the LEA, with the diocese and parish supporting the Christian Foundation of the school.

All Church schools benefit from the partnership with diocese and the worshipping community of the local parish.

Guildford Diocese is delighted to have been the originator of affiliated schools, now increasingly common in other dioceses. Affiliated schools are Community schools which have a close relationship with the diocese and their local parish, a link that has been confirmed by an informal agreement.
