Lifelong Learning

We think Lifelong Learning is important!

Lifelong Learning in this Diocese promotes opportunities for lay Christians to develop their faith and respond further to God's calling in their lives.

Bishop Christopher has expressed the need 'to nurture and teach all who are longing for the Bread of Life, so that all may grow in discipleship and maturity by word, sacrament and pastoral care'.

Together with the training opportunities for ministry, offered by the Department for Ministerial Training, Lifelong Learning aims to help Christians find out what kinds of learning would help them next on the journey.

Education for Discipleship is a priority recognised by the Church of England. The hope is that a suitable and accessible range of learning opportunities for lay people will be available in every region.

In our Diocese we produce a comprehensive listing of courses and resources available, compiled by the Diocesan Education for Discipleship Team. It currently contains information on course material and packages that you can buy for group study.

Discipleship Course for Adults
Living Your Faith is to be published over the course of 2011/12. Module 1 - 'Journey of Faith' and Module 2 - 'Roots of Faith' are available for parish use.

Devotional Lent Material
'To Seek Christ' compiled in 2011 by the Anglican Dioceses of Chichester and Guildford and the Catholic Diocese of Arundel and Brighton for Lent Groups.

Sumnmer School
Our annual Summer School in July is a good example of how learning can be fun and inviting, challenging and inspiring, without having to sign on for a long course or do course work. Each year, with the help of gifted speakers and tutors, we look at how faith applies to everyday life through Biblical study, prayer and spirituality, and analysis of contemporary issues.
