Tony Oakden

My role is to support and encourage parishes, deaneries and others within the diocese of Guildford to engage with issues arising in the wider community as part of the Church’s response to Gods desire for restored human relationships, social justice, and a right relationship between people and the created world.

I do this mainly through working with local parishes and people around identifying their local issues and by supporting local groups and partnerships, ecumenical, not-for-profit and statutory, in responding to these issues through action.

I can offer support to community projects, clergy, PCCs, Pastoral Assistants and others through consultation, training, information and signposting - including sources of funding and through the sharing of good practice.

I also assist the parishes and Diocese to engage with national and international issues of Social Justice through awareness raising and sharing of information.

DSR works at local level responding to local needs so this may be different in each situation. Ways in which we provide help are as follows:

Providing community development projects through partnership funding managed locally. For example the Guildford Street Angels project  website  newsletter

Social audits

Information and Advice Centres

Older Persons Visiting Schemes

Linking parishes to deanery or diocesan wide initiatives

Working with other faith groups.

I am always happy to receive enquires about my work and how you can become involved and can be contacted at the following address:

Diocesan House
Quarry Street
Guildford
Surrey GU1 3XG

I have a wealth of practical experience with Social Services both as a qualified social worker and manager. I have experience in working with a range of different people and situations but have a particular interest in older peoples’ issues.

I have experience of setting up and running projects and can assist parishes in engaging with their local communities and responding to local social needs. I can help with the setting up, management and funding of projects and am happy to discuss any aspects of social responsibility with parishes, PCCs or other parish groups.
